In this overview, we will go over what anaphylaxis is and what causes it.  We will identify risk factors for developing anaphylaxis and signs and symptoms of this potentially life threatening immune response.  Testing for anaphylaxis and diagnostics used to confirm the immune disorder along with testing for underlying causes of anaphylaxis will be reviewed as well.  Nursing interventions for treating anaphylaxis are critical and we will point out important, life saving interventions to manage symptoms and potential complications.  Medications to treat anaphylaxis and side effects of medications will then be assessed, which will also help to guide nursing interventions. Lastly we will go over important client education topics to help prevent and manage symptoms of this potentially life threatening immune system disorder.
