In this first lesson, we will review the structures that make up the renal system and go over the main functions of each structure.  We will give an overview of how urine is produced and explain both excretory and hormonal regulation functions of the kidneys. As you move through the lessons in the Renal System, go back and review this lesson for supporting information on the anatomy and physiology of how specific disorders affect kidney function and normal urine production.  You can also review all of the medications and diagnostic testing commonly used with disorders or the renal system.
