Congenital Heart Defects: Overview

This course is a general overview of Congenital Heart Defects which we will then cover in more detail in several subsequent courses. We will discuss the 2 main types of congenital heart defects, causes, diagnosis, and common treatments. Then we will explore assessments and the priority nursing interventions.

At the end of this lesson, the learner will be able to:

1. Define Congenital. Describe the 2 main classifications of Congenital Heart Defects in terms of how they affect blood flow: Acyanotic and cyanotic.
2. Describe 2-3 risk factors for Congenital Heart Defects, 2 methods of diagnosis, 2 types of treatment, and 2-3 priority nursing interventions.
