Domestic Violence
In this lesson, we will define domestic abuse and violence and review some different types of abuse nurses will screen clients for at every visit. We will then explore some causes and risk factors for experiencing domestic abuse. It is important to be aware of signs and symptoms of abuse including physical and behavioral indicators. We will determine the responsibility of the nurse in reporting cases of abuse and violence some important nursing interventions including the creation of a safety plan. We will then summarize the cycle of domestic abuse and violence and the characteristics of behaviors in each cycle. Finally we will review some potential complications of domestic abuse along with follow up care and resources that clients may require throughout the recovery process.
