Gestational Diabetes

In this lesson we will define Gestational Diabetes and its risks to maternal and fetal health. We will discuss risk factors, common signs and symptoms, ways to assess, and priority nursing interventions.

At the end of this lesson, the learner will be able to:

1. Describe Gestational Diabetes and 2-4 risks or complications of the condition for mother and baby.
2. Describe 1-2 ways maternal diabetes affects the fetus/newborn.
3. Describe 2-3 risk factors for Gestational Diabetes, the Glucose Tolerance Test.
4. Identify 2-3 signs and symptoms of Gestational Diabetes and related assessments, and 2-3 common interventions for Gestational Hypertension.
5. Describe how to manage a seizure.
