Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) Deficiency

In this lesson, we will identify what glucose-6-phosphate hydrogenase deficiency (G6PD) is and what causes it.  We will examine signs and symptoms of G6PD and review diagnostic testing used to diagnose this disorder. We will identify the main complication nurses will assess for with this disorder along with treatment methods used to manage symptoms.  Finally, we will review important nursing interventions and client teaching topics to help prevent and monitor for complications.
