In this content review, we will do a review of what the macula is and how it affects vision.  We will then define two types of macular degeneration and identify signs and symptoms of this chronic eye disorder.  We will go over some of the many causes and risk factors for developing macular degeneration in addition to signs and symptoms nurses will be assessing for.  Next we will look at diagnostics and testing used to confirm this disorder and finally nursing interventions and client education topics on symptoms management including medications and safety precautions.
