Newborn Assessment

In this course, we will discuss Newborn Assessment, why we assess the newborn, and the priority nursing interventions.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this lesson, the learner will be able to:

1. Describe 3-5 key assessments in typical Newborn Assessment. 
2. Describe typical ranges for temperature, heart rate, and respirations in the newborn. 
3. Identify why temperature is an especially important assessment in a newborn.
4. Describe 2-3 assessments related to feeding, and 2-3 assessments related to skin. 
5. Identify systems in order of priority. 
6. Describe the connection between temperature, blood sugar, and feeding behaviors.
