In this lesson, we will summarize what osteoporosis is and how it affects the function of the musculoskeletal system.  We will identify some causes and risk factors for developing osteoporosis and some potential complications it can cause.  We will also review several of the diagnostic exams and some important nursing assessments for identifying some common signs and symptoms of the disorder.  Medications and client teaching topics on how to manage symptoms will be addressed with a special focus on pain management, safety, dietary considerations, and symptoms management.
