In this lesson, we will review what the prostate is and identify causes and risk factors for developing prostate cancer.   We will review the male urinary system and discuss how the different stages of prostate cancer can affect urinary function.   We will also look at signs and symptoms of prostate cancer and testing used to confirm the diagnosis.  Next we will summarize the treatment plan for prostate cancer, with both surgical and non-surgical options, and review important nursing interventions and client education topics for safety and the prevention of infection and complications.

  7. Determine priority nursing interventions for caring for clients after treatment for prostate cancer
