In this lesson we will start with what Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are and assessing for infection as part of routine prenatal care. We will explore risks of untreated infection to pregnant clients and embryo/fetus/newborn, and priority nursing interventions.

 

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this lesson, the learner will be able to:

  1. Name 2-4 Sexually Transmitted Infections and 1-2 possible risks of untreated infection to the pregnant client and to embryo/fetus/newborn.
  2. Describe 2-3 diagnostic assessments, and availability of screening and testing as part of routine prenatal care.
  3. Identify 3 STIs that are chronic (can’t be cured) and 3-5 STIs that are treatable/curable.
