Sickle Cell Anemia

Throughout this lesson, we will differentiate sickle cell anemia from other types of anemia and explain what the causes and risk factors are for developing this disorder.  We will discuss signs and symptoms of sickle cell anemia along with some testing used to confirm the diagnosis. An important piece of this lesson is the section on medications and treatments used to manage chronic symptoms. Finally we will review important nursing interventions and client teaching topics regarding pain management, infection control, and prevention of complications.
