In this lesson, we will identify what thalassemia is and determine how it affects the development of red blood cells.  We will review causes and risk factors for developing this disorder along with common signs and symptoms nurses will be assessing for.  Treatments will vary depending on the severity of the disorder, and we will go over some of the most common treatments based on symptoms along with potential complications of the disorder.  Finally we will discuss important nursing interventions and client teaching topics aimed at symptoms management and prevention of complications.
