In this lesson, we will identify several types of fractures that can occur in bones.  We will discuss characteristics of each type of fracture along with causes and risk factors for fracturing a bone.  We go over signs and symptoms of fractures including important nursing assessments for complications to promote safety and infection prevention.  Finally, we will review nursing interventions for fractures that are going to be focused on preventing falls and injury, preventing infection, and controlling pain.
